Kids and Cosmetics

How many times have you seen your little daughter look at you intensely while you are applying lipstick before going out? Kids, particularly girls are fascinated with makeup and various kinds of cosmetics that are used by their mother. It has also been seen that many of them try applying cosmetics when their mother is not around (and create a complete mess!). There have been strong debates on the issue as how safe are cosmetics for kids or should kids use cosmetics at all.

What are cosmetics?
Cosmetics are generally applied to enhance one’s beauty and general appearance. Along with use of various kinds of chemical compounds, many cosmetics also contain natural ingredients. Cosmetics can be applied to various parts of the body, mainly the face, to make it look all the more attractive and appealing. There are local as well as international cosmetic brands, which are used by people.

Need of cosmetics
As mentioned above, cosmetics are needed to make one look good and beautiful. It is also interesting to see that with proper application of cosmetics many flaws can be concealed easily. For instance, if there are some marks on your face, you can easily hide them with the help of concealers. When used in the right manner, it becomes difficult to understand that there are any flaws on the skin. Fragrances and perfumes are also categorized under cosmetics as they make one smell good. Therefore for looking good and for making a good impression, cosmetics are used commonly.

Positives and negatives of using cosmetics
The greatest positive of using cosmetics is that it makes your appearance presentable and appealing. And this helps in boosting self confidence of a person by manifold times. Using the right cosmetic products can better your skin and also help in combating many flaws.

However, there are negatives of using these products as well. Most of the cosmetics contain chemical compounds, which are harmful for the skin when used on regular basis (particularly when the skin is as tender as that of a kid). Though many products claim to be completely natural, chemicals are present in them in minor quantities too. It has also been seen that some compounds used in the cosmetics can harm the skin with their toxicity and should be avoided. People have developed rashes and other skin problems by using such cosmetics.

How to select cosmetics if needed and when
Choosing the right cosmetic is very important, whether it is for yourself or for your little one. The first thing that you must take into notice is the ingredients that are used in the products. Natural products are preferred over chemical products as their negative impacts are less. Many people are allergic to various kinds of chemical compounds. Check that the same ingredients are not present in the cosmetics.

The skin of kids is extremely soft and sensitive. They have natural beauty of their own. However, if at all kids need to use cosmetics, make sure that you choose the safest and mildest products for them so that their skin does not get affected from the harshness of the cosmetic products. It is good to keep children away from cosmetics as long as possible. 7-8 years should be the minimum age is such products need to be used at all. Many cosmetic companies are bringing out special range of cosmetics particularly for kids so that they can use make up without harming their sensitive skin.

How to Find Talent in Your Kid

Isn’t it surprising that your toddler at the mere age of 3 years can make drawings and sketches that are lovely? Haven’t you been amazed by the fact how your little one picks up tunes of songs quite quickly and hums them in the perfect manner? Well, these are just few examples of talents in kids. It has been said over and over again that every kid is blessed with a special talent. Sometimes the talents are visible clearly and sometimes they are hidden as they do not get the right exposure. It is duty of parents, teachers, friends and close associates to find out the talent and encourage the same in the best way possible.

Trying to track the likes and preferences of the kid
A kid has his own world. To understand his preferences and likings, you have to make an entry into their world without disturbing them. Observe your kid carefully particularly in his free time. Try and understand what he likes ding during that time. While some kids might like to sit with their drawing books and color pencils, some might play with the mini piano that you gifted him on his birthday. Some kids show interest in making designs and patterns with colored papers, while some like to listen to songs or dance. Keeping a close observation on the activities of the kid will help you in knowing his areas of interest clearly. Also, a kid might have interest in more than one activity at times.

Assistance of parents very important in talent buildup
Once you identify the talent of your kid, it is your time to encourage the little one so that he can follow his passions freely. When kids get the right assistance from their parents their confidence levels increase and they follow the interests happily. For instance, when your kid sits to draw with his color pencils, you can also sit with him and draw and color something. Just notice the happiness on the kid’s face. Also arrange a mock competition and keep a prize for the winner (of course your kid gets it!). Encouraging your kid for his talent will boost his confidence greatly and will provide him the zeal of doing things in a better manner. Make attempts to let your kid know that you are always there to support his talent.

Guiding them to move in correct direction with proper training or formal classes
With proper guidance, talents in kids can be taken to a new level altogether. It might not always be possible for the parents to guide the children in correct direction. In such cases, parents should arrange for offering proper training to the kid in the field he is interested in. Admitting the kid for some formal classes will help in honing his skills greatly. It has been seen that with little polishing and training, the talent of the kid spreads its wings excellently and the whole world comes to know of it. Talents of such kids can be easily seen in the various reality shows that are aired on various television channels all throughout the world.

Apart from parents, teachers also play a pivotal role in identifying the talents in a kid. It is the duty of the teacher to inform the parents about the talent and also encourage the kid at the same time. Many hidden talents can be explored in this manner.
